Our student volunteers in Philippines organized an Environmental Science workshop where they conducted lessons on the science behind recycling and performed an activity on sorting objects that can be recycled and reused. Students learnt about the problems we face today with the amount of garbage we send to landfills. When garbage breaks down, chemicals combine together to form poisonous compounds and gasses that are harmful for the environment. Plastics take hundreds of years to naturally break down so it sits in the landfill after it is thrown away. When plastics are recycled, they are melted and shaped into new products.
